Painswick in the Cotswolds

Painswick is a delightful Cotswold village between Cheltenham and Stroud which is situated on a hill benefiting Painswick with lovely views of the surrounding Cotswold countryside. There are delightful, winding streets and handsome stone buildings which were established in the days where Painswick grew wealthy on the wool trade in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Painswick Cotswolds

There is something pleasing about the classical doorways and mullioned windows in the historic houses of Painswick.

Take a stroll around the Parish Church to view the table tombs in the graveyard that date back to those wool merchants who made the town prosperous. The 200 year old clipped yews in the churchyard are equally impressive.

The village stocks still stand there, their only use being as props in photographs.

The 16th Century Courthouse is open to the public at certain times.

Visit during February to see the wonderful display of snowdrops at the Painswick Rococo Garden.
